Mapping Community Assets

This ongoing project focuses on understanding and celebrating what already exists across the Three Valleys, from local groups and businesses to green spaces, cultural venues and community facilities.By mapping community assets along the Merthyr, Aberdare and Treherbert rail lines, we aim to build a clearer picture of the people, places and activities that make each community unique, and how the railway connects them.

This work helps ensure future projects are informed by local knowledge and shaped around real community strengths and needs.

What this project includes

  • Identifying community spaces, organisations and local initiatives
  • Highlighting attractions, events and “what’s on” across the region
  • Building an accessible, shared resource linked to rail travel
  • Supporting communities to share information about their area

What’s next

The map will continue to grow over time, shaped by community input and new discoveries. As it develops, it will support tourism, local pride and future community-led projects across the Three Valleys.
