We have offered the opportunity to local colleges and universities for their students to undertake work placements with us. This allows them to experience the third sector, the transport sector and Community Rail Network, plus practical skills to add to their portfolio.
So far, we have had a work placement student from Cardiff University, who undertook a project about Women’s Safety and comparing Cardiff with London.
We have had a student from IT at Merthyr College who completed a wide range of projects including social media content, an evaluation of our current social media platforms and a spreadsheet mapping the local stations and nearest safe spaces.
The University of South Wales joined us with their photography and media students as part of their Station to Station project and we introduced them to Merthyr. They also joined us for two Railway Memories sessions.
We are partnering with Cardiff Metropolitan University and the Criminology Community of Practice Group later in the year to further research Women’s Safety on the Rails.
